Unity of The Spirit

Unity of The Spirit

“The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God
and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.”
2 Corinthians 13:14

Few verses so wonderfully capture the essence and the depth of investment of our Triune God into the Body of Christ. May He open our eyes to the power of God given to unite His people into the singularity of heart to which He has called us.

1. “The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ”

2. “The love of God”

3. “The fellowship of the Holy Spirit”

The Call of God is never given without the resources to bring that Call to completion. His resources are fully exemplified in this one scripture.

“I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call— one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all. But grace was given to each one of us…”
Ephesians 4:1-7

The essential truth of the Unity of the Spirit it is that this unity ALREADY EXISTS! Our Call in God is simply to maintain that which already is. This Unity is not something we strive to bring to pass. It is into His Unity that we are called to enter and, through the development of His graces within us, maintain!

The Unity of the Spirit can only be experienced individually. In the alignment of my own heart with my Lord Jesus Christ I will touch the heart of my brother and sister through the ministrations of Grace that are ours through relationship.

The disobedient, the self-willed, and those who are dependent upon their associations with denominations, personalities, and teachings of men, will never touch the vibrancy and glory of this Divine Unity. May we consider the graces necessary and vital to our apprehension of this Unity of The Spirit of God:

“with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace…”

As we touch the heart of Christ there begins to grow within us an eagerness to maintain the Unity of the Spirit of God.

The true ministry of the Spirit will produce people walking in the work of the Cross where the “natural man” has and is being crucified; the bonds of their relationship with others is through the resurrection Life of the Son alone. These bonds of Peace are the very ligaments of His Body holding us together in a connection that defies the logic of men. Sin and selfishness cannot abide within this Holy bond. It is in purity of heart that we are freed from selfish agendas and personal pursuits with a desire to see others flourish in their walk with God.

The same faith that moved Abraham to seek a City whose builder and maker is God is the same faith that moves us to this same Heavenly Jerusalem: Mount Zion the City of God.

“But you have drawn near Mount Zion, even the city of the living God, to a heavenly Jerusalem, and to myriads of angels, and to a gathering, an assembly of the first-born ones having been enrolled in Heaven; and to God the Judge of all, and to spirits of just ones who have been perfected; and to Jesus the Mediator of a new covenant, and to blood of sprinkling speaking better things than that of Abel. Watch that you do not refuse the One speaking…”
Hebrews 12:22-25 (LITV)

This unity can only be experienced by a faith-inspired obedience. We are divinely warned to not refuse the One speaking these great promises! We must bear a great reverence for God with a heart that is compliant and obedient to answer the prayer of the Son: “that they may be one in US”!

“By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to a place that he was to receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going. By faith he went to live in the land of promise, as in a foreign land, living in tents with Isaac and Jacob, heirs with him of the same promise. For he was looking forward to the city that has foundations, whose designer and builder is God.”
Hebrews 11:8-10

The true disciple has only one prerogative in life:
that is to fulfill their Master’s Will.
(John 1:12)

“I will betroth you to Me forever;
Yes, I will betroth you to Me
In righteousness and justice,
In lovingkindness and mercy;
 I will betroth you to Me in faithfulness,
And you shall know the Lord.”
Hosea 2:19-20 (NKJV)

“The only way it is possible to have one mind is to have the mind of God derived from the unity of the Spirit of God, a unity which comes only when believers find the will of God and give themselves unselfishly and unstintingly to its fulfillment.”
– John F. Walvoord
