Unto Us a Son is Given

“For unto us a child is born,
unto us a son is given:”
Isaiah 9:6

The Mystery of all mysteries is wrapped up in the simplicity of this one verse in God’s Holy word. Not only has a child been born unto us but even more amazing is the fact that the Son has been given! This child was born like any other. He grew up and endured all the same trials and testings as us (and much more). He was in tempted in all points like we are and yet He failed not. He did not remain the child; even at twelve years old He questioned the leaders of that day with a wisdom well beyond His years. The Child became the Son. It is the full grown Son who is given unto all.

He was the only begotten Son of the Father and beloved; all the delight of the Father rested on Him. It is this Son who was handed over to the wicked and religious men of that day. The Son was given to “His own” (John 1:11*) but they refused Him and even demanded that the Roman government crucify Him (Luke 23:20-21**).

This same Son has been given to us by the grace and the Love of our heavenly Father. He has been graciously given to every generation with the intent that all men be reconciled unto God. The Hebrew word used here for “given” expresses a complete passive action. This particular form of the verb declares that the Father has entrusted to us His Son! He has unreservedly given Him to all people. The immensity of this trust is always to the individual. The offering of the Son was not only a moment on Calvary; it is an eternal offering unto all and each one will be held accountable for their actions concerning Him.

“Unto you therefore which believe he is precious:
but unto them which be disobedient,
the stone which the builders disallowed,
the same is made the head of the corner,”
1 Peter 2:7

Faith is the cradle into which He is born in our lives. He has been placed unreservedly into our trust by the grace of God. How do we treat the Christ within? Do we give Him the preeminent place within our hearts or do we casually reference Him from time to time? Is He just an idea or concept with little influence in the concourse of our daily lives?

“What will ye then that I shall do unto him…?”
Mark 15:12

The Gift of all gifts has been given unmerited and undeserved to each one of us. The Son has been fully entrusted to us with the purpose that we be found worshiping Him, loving Him (and one another) and living godly lives to His glory.

“So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God”
Romans 14:12

Notes:
* “He came unto his own, and his own received him not” – John 1:11
** “Pilate therefore, willing to release Jesus, spake again to them. But they cried, saying, crucify him, crucify him” Luke 23:20-21

“We venture to assert, that if there be any day in the year, of which we may be pretty sure that it was not the day on which the Savior was born, it is the 25th of December. Regarding not the day, let us, nevertheless, give thanks to God for the gift of His dear Son.”
