Ability and Responsibility

“They gave after their ability…”
Ezra 2:69

Ability denotes responsibility. The ability to do right determines our accountability unto God. The balances of the Lord are equal and just. His measure of every individual’s life will be proportional to their ability.

“Therefore to him that knoweth to do good,
and doeth it not, to him it is sin”
James 4:17

Blessed are those who give in the measure they have received. God’s giving of the talents was measured “according to their ability” as was their accountability.

“Ability involves responsibility;
power, to its last particle, is duty.”
Alexander MacLaren

Quote for Today

Shiloh

“Where are my friends?
The landscape is dry and desolate.
They have stretched my shredded body
On this humiliating tree.

The hands that healed
And the feet that brought good news
They have pierced
With their fierce hatred.”
Tim Shey (Excerpt from the Poem “Shiloh”)

“For dogs have compassed me:
the assembly of the wicked have enclosed me:
they pierced my hands and my feet.”

Psalm 22:16

It was His own who crucified Him. What God called the “assembly of the wicked” were they who called themselves the people of God. It was His own who pierced His hands and His feet. As it was in that day so is it in this Day. They who honor the men and women of God in the past still crucify Him in those who speak His Word in Today.

“Woe unto you! for ye build the sepulchres of the prophets,
and your fathers killed them”
Luke 11:47

Quote for Today

“The deepest need of humans is not food and clothing and shelter, important as they are. It is God. We have mistaken the nature of poverty, and thought it was economic poverty. No, it is poverty of the soul, deprivation of God’s recreating, loving peace”
Thomas Kelly

“He restoreth my soul”
Psalm 23:3

Love The Fruit of Obedience

“Seeing ye have purified your souls in
obeying the truth through the Spirit
unto unfeigned love of the brethren,
see that ye love one another
with a pure heart fervently:”
1 Peter 1:22

Obedience is the means by which God brings His own unto His end: a pure heart. Love is the perfection of God within an individual’s life. Those who “love not, know not God”. It takes little effort for others to see Him when God’s Love is resident in a life. Understanding deep things, functioning in gifts and ministrations are all good but if we have not love “we are nothing”. To be devoid of love is to be empty of God. When people stop caring over the condition and state of another life they have essentially stopped living. Life consists of loving, caring, encouraging and exhorting for all of these expressions proceed from the same Source.

“For whom the LORD loves He reproves,
Even as a father corrects the son in whom he delights”
Proverbs 3:12

“As ye know how we exhorted and comforted
and charged every one of you,
as a father doth his children…”
1 Thessalonians 2:11

The well-spring of all true expressions of the Holy Spirit flow from the Father’s heart into the lives of those who through the medium of obedience have their hearts purified with a fervent love of God’s people.

The Staff and the Rod of the Shepherd are both wielded by the same heart
to bring us to the same end. David found comfort in both and so should we

The measure of an individual’s life is known by the love beating within one’s heart for the life of the Son in those around us.

Love is the fire which births the words of life, the fire of life and the works of life.

“By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples,
if ye have love one to another”
John 13:35
