The Inclusive Language of God

“And I do not wish you to be ignorant,
brothers, that all our fathers were under the cloud…”
1 Corinthians 10:1

Paul wrote to the Church at Corinth seeking, as he always did, to exhort and to warn them of their responsibility to their spiritual heritage. He wrote to the Church (singular), located in Corinth (comprised of all the nationalities that were at that time incorporated in Christ), that “all OUR fathers” were now in Christ.

In his powerful Epistle to the Church at Ephesus he was moved to pray:

“For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named…”
Ephesians 3:14-15 (singular)

By the unction of the Holy Spirit, he cries out concerning the union by Whom the “whole family” (singular) in heaven and on the earth is named! Let us see the ministration of Christ throughout the ages! There is nothing accomplished in God apart from the wonder of Him ever working, ever creating, and ever moving upon all creation through Christ!

In Corinthians 10 Paul reveals that “our fathers”, who came out of Egypt, were granted five marvelous provisions and those provisions were the ministrations of Christ!

“And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ…”
1 Corinthians 10:4

It is foolish for men to think that there can be a Covenant of God apart from Christ. That there could be an administration of the Father apart from the Son is inconceivable!

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by Him; and without Him was not any thing made that was made.”
John 1:1-3

How is it that men so easily discount the majesty of Christ and demean the place of The Word in the economy of God!

“All things were made by Him and
without him was not any thing made”!

There is no covenant or creature that exists outside of the agency of The Word. Only our shortsightedness considers the Old Covenant irrelevant to us today. Paul uses the very failure of Israel in the wilderness to speak to us of our own walk in this present world (1 Corinthians 10:1-12). Their walk was for “our example” that we should not be overthrown as many of them were.

Concerning many of “our fathers,” the Word declares “God was not pleased”. Let us allow His Word to cause us to take heed to our ways. May we never detract from the majesty of God in Christ.

“But with many of them God was not well pleased:
for they were overthrown in the wilderness”
1 Corinthians 10:5

Why does the Holy Spirit present us with this testimony?

“Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted”
1 Corinthians 10:6

And again,

“And all these things happened to those as examples, and it was written for our warning, on whom the ends of the ages have come.”
1 Corinthians 10:11

We drink the same spiritual drink as they did. Their shoes and their garments did not wear out on their journey. Nor will our spiritual garments in Christ if we hold true to His Word.

“And I have led you forty years in the wilderness; your garments have not worn out from off you, and your sandal has not worn away off your foot…”
Deuteronomy 29:5

Can we not see the provisions of Christ throughout the ages? He is the Eternal Word and He Himself testified of the Scriptures concerning Himself:

“Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me…” (The New was not yet written…)
John 5:39

Peter revealed that the prophets of old testified by “the Spirit of Christ which was in them” (1 Peter 1:11). We rob Christ of His eternal co-agency in the Godhead (Philippians 2:6) to speak of anything less. It is the joy of the Father to exalt the Name of Jesus above every name (Ephesians 1:17-23) and we as His people should do no less!

“O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out! For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his counsellor? Or who hath first given to him, and it shall be recompensed unto him again? For of Him, and through Him, and to Him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen.”
Romans 11:33-36

There is but One Family, One Church, and One Faith! May we, as the people of God, hear and walk in the power and the unity of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Jesus Christ is in All and above All

“Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name
under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved…”
Acts 4:12

This is the inspired Word that Peter preached to the Jewish leaders of that Day. That Word still stands true! The Jews of that day needed to hear the Gospel of God in Christ and so it is for this day.

“There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free,
there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus
Galatians 3:28

“Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision,
Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ is all, and in all
Colossians 3:11

“To God only wise,
be glory through Jesus Christ for ever.
Amen”
Romans 16:27
