IF and THEN – Proverbs –

IF and THEN

Part One

PROVERBS 2:1-5

“…IF you will receive My words, and treasure up My commandments with you, so that you attend to wisdom, you shall extend your heart to understanding”
Proverbs 2:1-2

“…IF you cry for discernment, lifting up your voice for understanding”
Proverbs 2:3

“…IF you seek her as silver, and search for her as hidden treasures”
Proverbs 2:4

THEN you shall understand the fear of Jehovah and find knowledge of God”
Proverbs 2:5

In understanding the fear of the Lord we are given access to the knowing of Him. We live in a day in which understanding is relegated to teachings and concepts but the true knowing of God must be on an experiential basis not a doctrinal one. There is a Way that we can grow into the understanding of the fear of the Lord; it is a way fraught with conditional promises. Religion does not like the word “if” for it denotes responsibility and accountability; the pathway to discipleship is full of this word. “If” in the scriptures confirms the exercising of our own will and choice. It is the determining factor of a person’s walk with God and God’s walk with them. The beauty of God is that all of His “ifs” to us culminate in His “then” to us, for He desires relationship and investment on both of our parts. God has invested His Son and we are asked to simply comply with His “ifs”. Every promise given by God is conditional. It requires faith and faith is revealed by doing. “If” implies more than an intellectual acknowledgement; it is in itself a conditional statement requiring our response.

“IF you…”

This is the phrase given to us. A quick glance at these two words brings us not only to a conditional response, but more importantly a personal one. Many wait for someone else to do a thing or pray that somehow the “then” will come to pass. The promises wait for those who fulfill the “if” which must precede the blessing of the promise.

God will never circumvent the fulfilling of the promise without the corresponding “if’s” being met in our lives on a personal basis. No amount of prayer will short circuit God’s desire for our obedience.

Religion is expecting God’s approval without walking in God’s way.

FOLLOWING JESUS – Part One –

FOLLOWING JESUS

PART ONE

“And whoever does not take his cross
and follow me is not worthy of me”
MATTHEW 10:38

Following Jesus without a cross is impossible. We must take this verse at face value. This is His estimation of a disciple. The Gospel of today does not mention such things. We now have a gospel that costs nothing, spoken in nice surroundings with gentle music playing in the background. It does not call us to obedience nor is it ministered with the unction and power of the Holy Spirit. There is no call to radical change and the immediate surrender of our WILL unto Him. Simply raise your hand while no one is looking, murmur a recited statement, go every Sunday to “church” and believe. A crossless gospel produces powerless adherents. The depth and power of the anointing is revealed in the fruit it produces.

“For the preaching of the cross
is to them that perish foolishness;
but unto us which are saved
it is the power of God”
1 CORINTHIANS 1:18

We hear much today about unanswered prayers and the inability to overcome the temptations and issues within our lives. THERE IS A CONNECTION; no Cross no Crown. If there is no dying to self, there can be no victory OVER self. We want all that God offers plus we want all that the world offers and wonder why nothing seems to work. Discipleship is the only way into HIS LIFE. A crossless gospel is a lifeless gospel. A crossless message leaves the human soul bound by the sorrows of sin and death even though it quotes the scriptures with all of its promises. When will we realize that the “promises of God are yeah and amen IN HIM”.

“Therefore if any man be in Christ,
he is a new creature”
2 CORINTHIANS 5:17

Where is this newness of Life? IN HIM. If I do not follow Him I will never find myself in HIM. They that are HIS love HIM, they that love HIM follow HIM, and they that follow HIM pick up and carry their cross. There is no other way. May HIS SPIRIT waken us from our slumber and our apathy. May we understand anew that complacency and comfort with this present world produces spiritual poverty that leads to sin and death.

The disciples on the Day of Pentecost were instantly transformed into flaming torches of glory and they counted the sufferings that came their way (because of their lives and the words they spoke) as a privilege and a blessing. Yet, in spite of the glory and the empowering they experienced, we read of that there is a pressing into and a “salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last day”! They did not consider that they had “arrived”. They were consumed with following and laying down their lives for the “excellency of KNOWING HIM”. If we cannot see we cannot follow. May the Lord give us eye salve that we may see more clearly. May HE save us from our apathy and contentment and birth afresh in us the HOLY FIRE of His Presence. May HE COME with a presence that turns us away from man’s way, that births within us a Holy repentance, and that leads us back to the way of the altar and the LOVE OF HIM. May the CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST ARISE AS A SPOTLESS BRIDE UNIFIED IN THE LOVE OF HIM where the pride and agendas of men have been crucified and we now live to bring Glory and Honor to Him and Him alone. May we see that the crowning work of His Grace in the Body of Christ is to culminate in the Bride speaking in perfect union the Words of the Spirit…

“And the Spirit and the bride say, Come”!

THE FEAR OF THE LORD PART ONE

FEAR OF THE LORD

PART ONE

“But unto you that fear my name
shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings”
MALACHI 4:2

The fear of the Lord actually BRINGS healing to those who know it. The fear of the Lord can only be known by the touching of HIS HOLY PRESENCE. This is not something learned by a sermon, a seminar, the reading of books or a casual walk with God; it is the fruit of a life whose heartbeat is to KNOW HIM as HE really is. In much of today’s Christian life there is little, if any, conscious understanding of the FEAR OF THE LORD. As a result there is a tepid, impotent, carnal and divided Christian expression. The FEAR OF THE LORD is relegated to a sub note at the tail end of a sermon. The only concept most people have is what they have been taught not what they have experienced. Only those that seek HIM find HIM; only those that find HIM know and walk in the FEAR OF THE LORD. God’s complaint with Israel was….

“Wherefore the Lord said,
Forasmuch as this people draw near me with their mouth,
and with their lips do honour me,
but have removed their heart far from me,

and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men
ISAIAH 29:13

Teachings, precepts and concepts in and of themselves WILL NOT produce the genuine expression of the SON! Only the LIFE OF THE SON ruling and reigning in our heart will make us authentic expressions of HIS glory. To know HIM is to LOVE HIM and to LOVE HIM is to know HIM.

The Body of Christ is broken, fragmented, secularized (I am of Paul, I am of Apollos, I am a Baptist, I am a Pentecostal, I am ….whatever), wounded and impotent, but NOT hopeless! Unto THOSE that FEAR HIS NAME SHALL HE ARISE! Hallelujah! Not only will HE ARISE but there is HEALING and RESTORATION in HIS WINGS. This means there is healing in HIS ARISING. Let us at this moment seek HIM afresh for in seeking we SHALL (definite) FIND HIM, in FINDING we shall know HIM and in knowing HIM we shall understand the GLORY AND THE PRIVILEGE OF THE FEAR OF THE LORD.

IT IS UNTO THOSE THAT FEAR HIS NAME
SHALL HE ARISE!

“Give me one hundred preachers who fear nothing but sin,
and desire nothing but God,
and I care not a straw whether they be clergymen or laymen;
such alone will shake the gates of hell
and set up the kingdom of heaven on earth…”

MERCY

MERCY

“Blessed are the merciful:
for they shall obtain mercy”

Matthew 5:7

Mercy is not a sentiment of God, it is a power. There is a dynamic revealed in those who are held in its sway. It changes the walk of an individual; it produces an ever growing desire for relationship, fellowship and contact with others. Its ministration produces a life of abandonment to God (Romans 12:1) in those who are exercised by its power. Mercy will never leave a man to live unto himself disconnected from the essential graces of God. Mercy must infiltrate every area of our hearts, for it is an expression that must be GIVEN in order to receive it. It is to the merciful that mercy is given. Those who are forgiven much love much. Mercy does not negate truth, it reveals it. Sometimes mercy tends to be thought of as a sentiment that nullifies my obligation to walk in truth. It is held as an excuse to hold to my own ways, to walk in unforgiveness, to choose with whom I will have fellowship, to hold to my carnal ways and to simply live as I choose because…God is merciful!

“Blessed are the merciful:
for they shall obtain mercy”

Matthew 5:7

It is in the SHOWING forth of HIS Mercies that I receive them! It is in the exercising of HIS life that my own life is empowered with greater expressions. They who live without mercy shall be judged without mercy.

“For judgment is without mercy
to the one who has shown no mercy”

James 2:17

To hold on to offenses, to have no real sense of compassion for others, to secretly rejoice in the difficulties of others or to simply live a life unto SELF is to live without mercy.

MERCY IS TRUTH EXPRESSED!

And in its absence within the life of an individual
there is a barrenness and powerlessness that shrinks
one’s world into a small and narrow one.

Ω

“We do pray for mercy;
and that same prayer doth teach us all to render the deeds of mercy”

William Shakespeare (1564–1616)
