Thought for Today

Who is Wise?

“Therefore whosoever hears these sayings of mine,
and does them, I will liken him unto a wise man…”
Matthew 7:24

The scriptures are full of God’s thoughts and His determinations. Those who set their hearts to please and honor Him will have little difficulty discovering these things. It is a simple concept for us to consider; hear His Word and obey it. While many love to discuss revelations, dreams and visions the simplicity of doing His Word will make one wise and pleasing to God. As one man observed, the disobedient scholar has to muddy the water in order to make it appear deep. In reality the wonder of obeying Him brings us to clear waters, pure hearts and a faith built upon the very Rock of our Salvation.

There is no better teacher than obedience for it opens the heart to feel God within. It cleanses the eyes that we may see clearly and it causes our ears to become sensitive to the intonations of His voice. Obedience will always clarify our walk. In obeying we soon discover whether a thing is of God or of ourselves. Those who never obey His voice within are left with obscurity in the things of life. They have never acted on the still small voice within and therefore the ambiguity of His way is never solved. With the passing of time the voice becomes reticent and men and women are left to their own thoughts and ways.

Child-like faith will always reveal the Father. It is to such He comes to show them the wonders of His Son and of His Kingdom.

“But whoever does what is true comes to the light,
so that it may become evident
that his actions have God’s approval”
John 3:21

THE CALL

PART ONE

“Get thee out of thy country,
and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house”
GENESIS 12:1

The CALL of God upon a person’s life will always require a rising up and a forsaking of things familiar, of places where we grew up in our spiritual life, and of associations that have become satisfied and static. The CALL necessitates response. The CALL keeps us aware that we are sojourners and pilgrims in this world. The CALL presses us to seek Him above all other things. A loyalty to organizations, ministries, and teachings can become the graveyard of the true Disciples of Christ for the affinity to these things causes us to settle in the earthly rather than the Heavenly. The true pursuit of the CALL causes us to know and feel HIS heart for the UNITY of the Spirit and in that CALL we recognize that every other agenda apart from this one thing is an affront to His Purpose. Every TRUE ministration of His Life is to make men see what is the HOPE of HIS CALLING unto us and to recognize that we are “members one of another”. This UNITY is based upon the work of the SPIRIT OF TRUTH not compromise. It is in becoming true that we have access to the mystery of this UNITY which already exists, (“that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me”), in the heavens.

“Now this I say, that every one of you saith,
I am of Paul; and I of Apollos; and I of Cephas; and I of Christ”
Is Christ divided?

“MAKING OUR REQUESTS KNOWN”

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication,
with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God”
PHILIPPIANS 4:6

It is the privilege and the right of every child of God to be free from anxious care. This is not a LIFE that is entered into easily nor carelessly. It is within the purpose of God to BRING us to such a place of trust and reliance upon our God. The ANSWER is having the simplicity of a child in turning those anxious thoughts into prayers and supplications. The childlike life of the SON within each of us is not a starting point in our life with HIM. Rather it is an essential quality of being that enables us to LIVE within the PROVISION of all that is in HIM. This childlike faith is what we must GROW INTO in order to ENTER the KINGDOM OF GOD!

“Except ye be converted, and BECOME as little children,
ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven”
MATTHEW 18:3

It is in us becoming as little children that we are enabled to ENTER the Kingdom. It is believing that the things which cause anxiousness within our hearts can simply be released to our Heavenly Father through prayer and supplication! We are instructed here that “IN EVERYTHING” by the medium of prayer and supplication and with THANKSGIVING we are to make our requests known unto God! It is BY the DOING of these things that we BECOME living participants of HIS provision and life. This simple truth is not easily learned. It is in our being converted (changed and transformed) that this LIFE is developed and grown into; converted here in the Greek means “to turn one’s self from one’s course of conduct, i.e. to change one’s mind”. The prevailing concept in a large segment of the Christian world concerning “conversion” is one of something that happened at a certain point in time. But unless we see it a as a daily need, to ever be in the process of BEING changed, ever becoming, ever growing from “glory to glory”, we are stagnant in our relationship with HIM.

Change is the evidence of LIFE. Conversion and transformation from what we are into the simplicity of HIS LIFE within us is the essential business of this LIFE.

This life of making our requests known unto God as the answer to our anxious cares is directly related to the power of a FAITH that is real and dynamic within our hearts. It is only by FAITH that we are able to make such transactions with God that will produce within us a freedom from our anxiousness and care.
