“The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single,
thy whole body shall be full of light.”
Matthew 6:22

Love – The Light of God

A singularity of heart is to be sought after and treasured in the Christian life. Countless distractions, sorrows, and fears are faced in our brief journey here. A deep work of God’s grace is needed for us to feel His draw,  pulling us away from our own affinities and weaknesses, and into His dominion. In Psalm 86, David felt these things and earnestly prayed that God would “unite his heart” in the fear and reverence of Him.

“Teach me Thy way, O Lord; I will walk in Thy truth:
unite my heart to fear Thy name.”
Psalm 86:11

Through David’s experiences, he had learned that the unifying work of God in his own heart was the outcome of learning the ways of the Lord and walking in His truth. Unity of heart is the result of His grace leading us, His love filling us, and His Word teaching us of His Ways. Where these three divine influences abide, communion with Him becomes the primary pursuit of our hearts along with the fellowship of others who desire the Light of God to be the governing principle of life (1 John 1:7).

Unity is the atmosphere of God’s Presence

“…if therefore thine eye be single,
thy whole body shall be full of light.”
