DRINK YE ALL OF IT
“And he took the cup, and gave thanks,
and gave it to them, saying,
Drink ye all* of it”
Matthew 26:27
There is to be nothing left of the cup that He gives us. His purpose for us is to drink deeply and fully of all that is in the cup. “All of it”. Men sip and drink leisurely of that which He gives because of apathy and great ignorance. We seek to save our life, our will, our reputation and our individuality and in so doing we lose it. His Life becomes ours through the drinking of ALL that is in the cup. For this cup is the very blood of the New Covenant. It is HIS Blood and the life is in the blood. We are waiting for something external while all the time HIS cup is before us every day to drink of HIS life in the pouring forth of what we have to others. The cup is full of sufferings, contradiction, and sorrow but HIS cup is full of a life that is constantly given as a sacrifice so that others may live.
Drink ye all of it. Do we hear the call? Do we catch the significance of HIS intent and heart? To a heart filled with the Love of Him this is no casual invitation but a commandment of unprecedented proportions. It is not only a call to identification. It is the call to DRINK of HIS LIFE so that the Life of Him becomes our life. The one who died sacrificially, willingly and obediently to the will of the Father now lives to produce that same LIFE in us. It is not our choice where and unto whom we will be poured out. It is not our choice any longer to decide the path we are to walk. Those who insist on keeping those choices are those who will never develop into His likeness. For it is in the drinking of the cup that HIS LIFE BECOMES our life.
“He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood,
dwelleth in me, and I in him”
John 6:56
This is the cup of the New Testament. There is no other provision by which we are to live. He IS our salvation. While men wait for an event, God holds out the cup of HIS DEAR SON and says “Drink ye, all of it”. Who will hear the call, who will give heed to the invitation that stands in this critical hour? For this is the only way to abide in Him and to have Him abide in us.
“Verily, verily, I say unto you,
Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man,
and drink his blood, ye have no life in you”
John 6:53
Life consists of the choices we make. What we are right now is the culmination of all the choices we have made. In every choice we make we determine to partake of HIM and lose our life, or to deny Him and save our life. Disciples are made through the crucible of choice.
* Some of the modern translations do not translate the Greek meaning literally as they should thus nullifying the great import of the call of Jesus to his disciples and to us in this critical day.
