The Purpose of Grace – Part Three

The Purpose of Grace

Part Three

“But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord”
Genesis 6:8

Grace is always given with purpose. God’s wisdom and creativity has such abundance that the wonder of His giving exceeds our ability to comprehend it. Lost within its glory is the essential truth of the purpose and design with which it is given.

The generation in which Noah lived was one of violence and great evil.

“And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.”
Genesis 6:5

It was in this context that the life of Noah shone into the surrounding darkness.

Grace given is revealed in the life lived.

“Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations,
and Noah walked with God”
Genesis 6:9

The measure of Grace received is revealed in corresponding measure in our daily walk. Grace is the very power of God to bring us to the reservoir of His enablement to live and walk beyond our own miserable resources.

“Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling,
not according to our works,
but according to his own purpose and grace,
which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began…”
2 Timothy 1:9

Whenever and wherever God’s people disassociate Grace from Purpose there is a falling short of the call of God. Any ministration that presents grace separately from the bonds of a “holy calling” are misrepresenting the very heart and purpose of God Himself!

The end of God’s grace in Noah’s life is succinctly revealed as a testimony for us in our day.

“Thus did Noah;
according to all that God commanded him,
so did he”
Genesis 6:22

True Power – Part One

True Power

Part One

“His radiance was like the sunlight;
rays flashed from His hand,
where His power is hidden”
Habakkuk 3:4

God hides His Power. Those who have touched the pulsating power of the Almighty God know of the latent wonder of His exousia. This power is unfathomable, unconquerable and, above all, restrained. It is only the insecure, the proud and the fallen who seek to exercise their  authority over others. God Himself has no need to arbitrarily prove His power. The crucified hands of Christ are the true demonstration of God’s Almighty Power. It is from His wounds that the rays of His Light shine forth. In His garments of meekness His Power is made bare. The governing powers of this world, the mocking and murderous mobs of the heathen, and the rage of the devil himself will never understand the secret and wonder of God’s power.

His Power is hidden
within the Hands of His Christ.

The invitation of His Spirit is ever to reach forth our unbelieving hearts and touch the wounds of the bleeding Christ; the touch-stone to which all creation owes its being. It is within the veil of these wounds that God’s Nature is revealed.

“Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands;
and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side:
and be not faithless, but believing…”
John 20:27

While the religious of the world seek to fight for their rights of expression, the Crucified Christ laid aside His Rights and revealed His eternal power by His nail-pierced hands.

“But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory: Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory”
1 Corinthians 2:7-8

The Desire for Today – The One Thing

The Desire for Today

The One Thing

“One thing have I desired of the Lord…”
Psalm 27:4

The dedicated life is the simple life. When the lens of the heart is focused upon Him alone the affairs of life become ordered and life slows down. The voices from the periphery become muted and indistinct. The stillness of Peace becomes the silence which rules the heart and brings stillness to the soul. His wonder is the fragrance and atmosphere of the moment.

Continue to draw me into the sanctuary of your presence
where I am yours and you are mine.

“My beloved is mine,
and I am his…”
Song of songs 2:16

Quote for Today – Amy Carmichael

Quote for Today

“Blessed are the single-hearted, for they shall enjoy much peace. If you refuse to be hurried and pressed, if you stay your soul on God, nothing can keep you from that clearness of spirit which is life and peace. In that stillness you will know what His will is.”
Amy Carmichael

Quote for Today – A.W. Tozer

Quote for Today

“The loneliness of the Christian results from his walk with God in an
ungodly world, a walk that must often take him away from the
fellowship of good Christians as well as from that of the unregenerate
world.

His God-given instincts cry out for companionship with others of his
kind, others who can understand his longings, his aspirations, his
absorptions in the love of Christ; and because with his circle of friends
there are few who share his inner experiences, he’s  forced to walk alone.

The unsatisfied longings of the prophets for human understanding caused
them to cry out in their complaint, and even our Lord himself suffered in
the same way.

The man (or woman) who has passed on into the divine Presence in actual
inner experience will not find many who understand him. He finds few
who care to talk about that which is the supreme object of his interest, so
he is often silent and preoccupied in the midst of noisy religious shoptalk.

For this he earns the reputation of being dull and over-serious, so he is
avoided, and the gulf between him and society widens. He searches for the
friends upon whose garments he can detect the smell of myrrh and aloes
and cassia out of the ivory palaces, and finding few or none, he, like Mary
of old, keeps these things in his heart.

It is this very loneliness that throws him back upon God. His inability to find
human companionship drives him to seek in God what he can find nowhere
else.”
