Light and Salvation

“The Lord is my light and my salvation”
Psalm 27:1

The power of God’s truth is only known by us to the extent of our personal relationship with Him. We may believe in the Words of God, and rightly find consolation for our troubled souls, but to step out into the world with Him as our light and salvation require trust. Obedience is the revelation of our actual trust in Him.

It is one thing to believe that the Lord is the Light and that He has provided salvation. It is another thing altogether to know Him as OUR Light and OUR Salvation in the continuum of life. The Psalmist is not speaking of a “salvation” based on a historical event. The language and the confidence of his declaration were of a continuous nature. He knew well that his sin with Beersheba and the other great temptations of life necessitated a present Saviour and an ongoing ministration of the Light of God.

The righteousness of God is revealed in those who overcome temptation. Faith is the vital linkage to righteousness. While many accept only the declaration of being righteous, it is by the living faith of God, and more importantly IN God, that we can shun the offerings of this world. This righteousness is ever-growing in proportion to our relationship with Him by living faith.

“For therein is the righteousness of God revealed
from faith to faith*: as it is written, The just shall live by faith”
Romans 1:17

Let us read His Word carefully, free from dilution. Our righteousness is related to our growing faith, “from faith to faith”. The power of this living faith brings us to an increasing dependency upon HIM to live more godly today than we did yesterday.

“The just shall live by faith”

Those who have been truly justified live each day by faith. Not a faith rooted in the sacrifice of Christ over 2000 years ago, but by the life of Him within moving us to a more substantial faith to live “godly IN Christ Jesus”.

“For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life”
Romans 5:10

Reconciliation to God in Christ is but the beginning of those who truly love Him. Every true believer comes quickly to the realization that the ongoing wonder of our salvation is directly related to the depth of His power and life within rescuing me from temptation without carnal corruption within.

His Life is our salvation. The scriptures reveal Him and in our coming to Him we live!

“Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life:
and they are they which testify of me”

“And ye will not come to me,
that ye might have life”
John 5:39-40

The purpose of the Word is to reveal, testify of, and verify His heart, His Work, and His Person.

The secret of salvation is revealed in the True Vine. As branches, with our growing reliance upon Him, we bear fruit and glorify the Father.

“Herein is my Father glorified,
that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples”
John 15:8

Discipleship is the path to true fruitfulness.

“by faith unto faith”. According to the A.V., the idea is that of progress in faith itself; either from Old to New Testament faith, or, in the individual, from a lower to a higher degree of faith; and this idea, I think, must be held here, although it is true that it is introduced secondarily since Paul is dealing principally with the truth that righteousness is by faith. We may rightly say that the revealed righteousness of God is unto faith, in the sense of with a view to producing faith; but we may also say that faith is a progressive principle; that the aim of God’s justifying righteousness is life, and that the just lives by his faith (Gal 2:20), and enters into “more abundant” life with the development of his faith. Compare 2Co 2:16; 2Co 3:18; 2Co 4:17; Rom 6:19; and the phrase, justification of life, Rom 5:18.”
