Holy Desires
“One thing have I desired of the Lord, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to enquire in his temple”
Psalm 27:4
The primary difference between the Old Covenant and the New is that the new is full of provision and grace. The call to righteousness, holiness and truth have not changed. The desire of the righteous is to abide and live within the tabernacle of Christ. He is our fortress, our stronghold and our salvation. Those who have truly risen in Him desire the experiential abiding within His courts of love and glory.
“If ye then be risen with Christ,
seek those things which are above”
Colossians 3:1
The validity of our being risen with Christ will be revealed in our seeking of the things above; this requires a forsaking of the things below. The desire to abide in Him and dwell with Him necessitates a setting of our affections on things above. The nature of any life is revealed by the thing it covets. An earthly man seeks and desires the things of earth (even while professing spiritual things). A heavenly man seeks and desires those things which are found only in Christ.
“Set your affection on things above,
not on things on the earth”
Colossians 3:2
There is a call in the Spirit to heavenly things and they which are of that Spirit hear and find grace to yield themselves to its directive. Those who are of the Spirit walk and live with a passion and desire for Him. Those who are of the earth live and pursue their passions for earthly things. It is not the words spoken but the life lived whereby the nature of an individual is known.
“The desire of the righteous is only good”
Proverbs 11:23
