Thought for Today
The River and the Fruit
Part One
“And on the banks, on both sides of the river, there will grow all kinds of trees for food. Their leaves will not wither, nor their fruit fail, but they will bear fresh fruit every month, because the water for them flows from the sanctuary. Their fruit will be for food, and their leaves for healing.”
Ezekiel 47:12
Where the river flows, there is fruit. Fruit is the outflow of any life whose roots drink in the wonder of the river. Christ is the river, He is the vine and He is the only source of True Life. The trees on the banks of this river not only bear fruit but provide nourishment for others. It is the food of the Spirit; food that strengthens the hearts of His own to walk and live and bear fruit for the welfare of others. The expressions of substance and nourishment reveal the verity and source of life of the tree.
The phrase “there will grow” is powerful. “There”. Where? By the River. Those who are drinking of this river grow. There is no stagnancy or sense of just holding on. The life here is eternal life; ever increasing, ever pulsating and always developing in the glory and beauty of Christ Himself! How vital it is for ourselves and others that we learn to be rooted and sustained by His living waters.
“Ho, every one that thirsteth,
come ye to the waters”
Isaiah 55:1

Hi Brian,
A wonderfully encouraging post. My mother was one who not only drank from The River, but found the depths of water to swim in, and swam in them continually, leading many to do likewise…
