Thought for Today

Strengthened with Might

“That he would grant you,
according to the riches of his glory,
to be strengthened with might
by his Spirit in the inner man”
Ephesians 3:16

The end and purpose of all ministry is to see His people strengthened to walk, stand and be living epistles read and known of all. The prayer expressed here is one born of a true heart that lives to see God’s Kingdom ruling and reigning within the hearts of His own; to be strengthened with the might and ability of the Holy Spirit to live righteously in this dark world by the resources of His Spirit. This strengthening is in proportion to the “riches of His glory”!

Let us this morning seek to avail ourselves of the riches and power made accessible to us in the person of Christ Jesus our Lord.

May we be strengthened to meet the obstacles and trials of the day.

Strengthened to walk above the temptations of the world around us.

Strengthened to love those who are contrary to us.

Strengthened to abide in the wonder of His embrace.

Such is the privilege of all who call upon His Name.

PREPARE YE MY PEOPLE*

THE STORM IS ABOUT TO BREAK!

“But let us, who are of the day,
be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love;
and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.”
1 Thessalonians 5:8

Who are the people of the Day? They who are sober (free from the intoxications of this world), who are putting on (an active and daily exercise) the breastplate of faith and love and are having their minds transformed by the living hope of God’s promises. They who are of the DAY know of the subtlety of this hour, they know behind the comforts, excesses and entertainment of this life there lurks an enemy who would seek to undermine our watchfulness and cause us to lose our diligence in this time of obscurity. The scripture preceding this one…

“For they that sleep sleep in the night;
and they that be drunken are drunken in the night”
1 Thessalonians 5:7

To be a people of the Day has little to do with teaching and understanding, it is revealed in the LIFE of being sober, aware, watching as a watchman in the night. It is incumbent upon those who are walking in the light as He is in the light to be vigilant and mindful of the Lord. People of the Day know inherently the deceptive nature of their own hearts, they place no confidence in their understanding, they are keenly aware that “HE is their salvation” and as it was with Elisha following and keeping His eyes on Elijah that the promise is secured. We dare not take our eyes off of Him, we dare not give our eyes to slumber, our hearts to folly and our minds to discouragement or despair.

People of the Day know of the necessity of remaining in His Spirit, being clothed in the armor of His light and in the strength of His might.

In this past while I have been privileged to visit the underground church in several persecuted countries and as a result I have come to the conclusion that we who live in the countries of ease and plenty are actually living in the most dangerous environment to the Christian walk. We are seeing the fall of many because of the lack of the fear of the Lord and of a compromised gospel which speaks of a God who is no longer concerned with righteousness. It is a Gospel which does not present God’s Holiness and call to walk in sobriety and truth. It is here in our land where His judgement is about to fall because of the torpor, the secularism and apathy which has taken hold of His people that His Word is going forth to turn us from our ways to walk in His.

The Trumpet is sounding in the Day of prosperity to all who would have ears to hear for the storm is about to hit with suddenness and great fury and only they who are of the Day will meet it with the Breastplate of Faith and Love and the Helmet of Salvation.

“I spake unto thee in thy prosperity;
but thou saidst, I will not hear.
This hath been thy manner from thy youth,
that thou obeyedst not my voice”
Jeremiah 22:21

*NOTE: As I was writing this article this word came to me…

“The storm is about to break,
prepare ye my people and give ear to His Word!”

WATCH

“Blessed are those servants,
whom the lord when he cometh shall find watching”
LUKE 12:37

In Biblical times the night was divided into watches. In the Old Testament the night was divided into three distinct watches. These were the shifts that the night watchmen would take to be on the alert for an enemy. In the New Testament the night watches were four in number. In the illustrations of Jesus it was the fourth watch that He used to illustrate the necessity of vigilance and sobriety.

“For the Son of man is as a man taking a far journey,
who left his house, and gave authority to his servants,
and to every man his work, and commanded the porter to watch.
Watch ye therefore: for ye know not when the master of the house cometh,
at even, or at midnight, or at the cockcrowing, or in the morning:
Lest coming suddenly he find you sleeping.
And what I say unto you I say unto all,
WATCH”
MARK 13:34 – 37

It is imperative that we find the strength through His wondrous grace to be actively engaged in the work that He has given us lest we grow weary and the slumber of the world come upon us. It is in these late watches that the weariness of the way sets upon us and our senses are no longer attuned to the things of the Spirit. We may mindlessly go through the actions of a religious life without the fervor or passion of His Life in us. Everyday life becomes a mechanical performance and the lateness of the hour and the subtlety of the thoughts of our hearts deceive us into thinking that everything is all right. Without the watchman calling out to the Church of the Living God there would be no sound of alarm. Soft and soothing words of men declaring peace and safety when the Day of the Lord is at hand are a deadly and beguiling thing. We are clearly admonished to watch for we know not the hour of the unimaginable shakings that are coming upon the earth.

“But watch yourselves lest your hearts be weighed down
with dissipation and drunkenness and cares of this life,
and that day come upon you suddenly like a trap.
For it will come upon ALL who dwell on the face of the whole earth.
But stay awake at all times, praying that you may have strength
to escape all these things that are going to take place,
and to stand before the Son of Man.”
LUKE 21:34 – 36

The coming of the Lord is no longer spoken of as imminent or of any real importance as to how we live our lives. In this Day of obscurity where evil is abounding all around us, the greatest evil of all is the revelation of our own insensitivity to it. The Darkness is gathering and the Church is being lulled by the seeming peace and tranquility around us. As it was spoken of Noah’s day… “…they knew not until the flood came and took them all away” (Matthew 24:39). In this day we are being tested by the watchfulness of our hearts and the readiness of our lamps. We need to have that extra measure of oil to burn into the late watches of the night.

“And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them…”
MATTHEW 14:25

WATCHING DAILY

“Blessed is the man that heareth me,
watching daily at my gates,
waiting at the posts of my doors.”

Proverbs 8:34

A Blessed man is a man who is diligent in the affairs of his life. He is attentive, his ears tuned to the whisper of the Holy Spirit whether it be a word of correction, encouragement or teaching. There is a blessing upon those who refuse to give themselves to the distractions of this life. There is a focus and recognition of the great need to walk circumspectly in this hour. It is an hour of great delusion, an hour of great subtlety, as we recognize the gathering of the storm in our land. It is a time of realizing that the resources of this hour will not be sufficient for the things that are coming. It is time for the people of God to seek, pursue, and to give of ourselves unto Him without reservation. He alone is our sufficiency. He alone is the abiding place whereby we find grace and provision for this DAY. The ability to hear and to be instructed is not optional, it is a necessity! The discipline of “watching DAILY” at His Gates, waiting at the posts of His doors and ever seeking to hear His voice must become the posture of our daily lives.

“Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit
and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication
for all saints…”

Ephesians 6:18

Prayer is the means by which we stay alive and attentive to the Spirit. It is from this stance that we find our hearts and minds waiting at the door of His moving in our lives. How we need the fellowship that flows one to another from such hearts; to hold one another up in prayer and supplication that we may share in the ministry of our risen Lord! This ministry is to be one that is accomplished with perseverance and love. In the exercise of such things we become more like Him in the everyday flow of life; with and in Him so that we are aware of His Presence daily.

“Prayer is the most important thing in my life.
If I should neglect prayer for a single day,
I should lose a great deal of the fire of faith.”

MARTIN LUTHER (1483–1546)
