PSALM 25 – Part Four – Trust
(Part 1 of Psalm 45:2)
“O my God, I trust in Thee…”
Psalm 25:2
Profound aspects of this Psalm are summed up in the phrase “O my God”. It is an endearing term of David expressing dependency upon His God. The Psalms of David are intensely personal, journals of his experiences and evidence of his relationship with God. They breathe hope to countless generations who hunger and thirst in like manner after their God. We see the countless mercies of God sustaining him through his darkest failures, his moments of weakness, and countless trials and testings. The steadfast love of the Lord never ceased to sustain him. May we continue to grow in faith and confidence that HE is also our God in whom we can fully trust.
“I trust in Thee”
The ancient Hebrew pictographs from which the Biblical Hebrew evolved imparts the original thought and mindset that this word (trust) is to convey to those who “followeth hard*” after Him (*Psalm 63:8).
The work of God in His own is to bring us to the place of weakness in ourselves whereby we “cling” to Him in trust and full dependency.
This is vividly portrayed to us in the life of Jacob. The schemer and the conniver found himself wrestling with God to try to get his way. The wrestling of Jacob is prophetic of His way with us. For “Jacob” to become “Israel” he had to be broken and crippled by the God who called him to greater things. The end of Jacob was realized by his clinging to the ONE who alone could make him into a “Prince with God”!
In Jeremiah 13:11 we read of God’s desire for Israel:
“For as the loincloth clings to the waist of a man, so I made the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah cling to me, declares the LORD, that they might be for me a people, a name, a praise, and a glory, but they would not listen”
Jeremiah 13:11
Many are called to this place of dependency, but few allow God to bring the breakings required to bring us to a place of a full reliance upon Him. Jacob’s response to the ONE with whom he wrestled, when asked to let Him go, was “I will not let Thee go”. It is in this moment of crisis that the elect of God reveal their love and need of Him. May we become as Job who declared amid tremendous trials: “Though He slay me, yet will I trust Him.”

“Augustine says that we may, out of our dead sins, make stepping stones to rise to the heights of perfection. What did he mean by that? He meant that the memory of our falls may breed in us such a humility, such a distrust of self, such a constant clinging to Christ as we could never have had without the experience of our own weakness.”

From the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and the God of all comfort:
Romans 5:1-5 AMP
1 Therefore, since we have been justified [that is, acquitted of sin, declared blameless before God] by faith, [let us grasp the fact that] we have peace with God [and the joy of reconciliation with Him] through our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed). 2 Through Him we also have access by faith into this [remarkable state of] grace in which we [firmly and safely and securely] stand. Let us rejoice in our [a]hope and the confident assurance of [experiencing and enjoying] the glory of [our great] God [the manifestation of His excellence and power]. 3 And not only this, but [with joy] let us exult in our sufferings and rejoice in our hardships, knowing that hardship (distress, pressure, trouble) produces patient endurance; 4 and endurance, proven character (spiritual maturity); and proven character, hope and confident assurance [of eternal salvation]. 5 Such hope [in God’s promises] never disappoints us, because God’s love has been abundantly poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.
Footnote AMP
a. Romans 5:2 In the NT the word “hope” expresses a cherished desire along with the confident assurance of obtaining that which is longed for.
Romans 8:28-30 AMP
28 And we know [with great confidence] that God [who is deeply concerned about us] causes all things to work together [as a plan] for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to His plan and purpose. 29 For those whom He foreknew [and loved and chose beforehand], He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son [and ultimately share in His complete sanctification], so that He would be the firstborn [the most beloved and honored] among many believers. 30 And those whom He predestined, He also called; and those whom He called, He also justified [declared free of the guilt of sin]; and those whom He justified, He also glorified [raising them to a heavenly dignity].
sorry for late reply – “through Him we have access by faith” what an endearing and precious truth. Faith being the conduit through which all He is becomes ours. Faith indeed being in itself the great “mystery”. How it has lost much of its wonder…
“Holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience…”

So few believers know how to trust in God. Most times we’re looking for ways to make it work, rather than to depend on him to lead us, so we go on head long without direction into the mess we create .
If we were to cling to him as he intended for us to do we could follow him and succeed in the desire of the Lord, and not in our own perspectives or plans.
Blessings brother.
“succeed in the desire of the Lord…” That is the purpose of life. To fulfill ALL of His desire for us personally! Too many today are satisfied in our being forgiven without comprehending that HE purposed something distinct and personal for us.
To have the cry to “apprehend” Him for the reason HE apprehended us. Love ever seeks to please the One upon whom it is focused.
Blessings
