Effectual Prayers – Quietness

Effectual Prayers
*See Note Below

Quietness

“But I have calmed and quieted my soul, like a weaned child with its mother; like a weaned child is my soul within me.”
Psalm 131:2

In this digital age, our hectic lives can look like small ships tossed in a great storm. Texts, phone calls, emails, and a multitude of other voices relentlessly clamor for our attention. Quietness of spirit seems to be something of another age. But quietness is the vital state of heart needed to hear Him. His presence is filled with a peace that dispels the noise and the static of our driven world.

Peace is the atmosphere of God. His Spirit desires to lead us into a place of abiding within its dominion. Peace is not only the atmosphere of Him but also our compass to keep us in the path of the Shepherd. It will keep us from temptations and sorrow.

“For ye shall go out with joy,
and be led forth with peace…”
Isaiah 55:12

The disobedient and the self-assured may have eloquent prayers yet never touch the depths of true communion.

“And the way of peace have they not known”
Isaiah 59:8; Romans 3:17

The natural man will not find this place of communion with God. God is Spirit and those who would enter the sanctum of His presence must do so with an attitude of worship and authenticity. Christ is our surety of access. His atonement removes the striving, the barriers of insecurity, and the feelings of unworthiness. In Christ alone, we have access to the “Throne of Grace”.

God has a Word of invitation for His creation. The downtrodden, the lost, and the weary will find solace and rest in Him.

Come to Me, all you laboring and burdened ones,
and I will give you rest…”
Matthew 11:28

Prayer is the place of transaction with God. We come in honesty of all that we are – not trying to be something, to say right words, or to repeat scripted prayers passed down through the centuries. Prayer is when the child leans upon God; a “weaned child” comforted and filled with the milk and bread of His presence needing nothing more than to be held in the arms of the Father. In this unique bond between child and Father, there is a quiet unfolding of new aspects of His Love. An hour in His presence is priceless.

His Will is made known in our prayer time with Him. Deeds are born by the faith imparted in our time with Him. “Faith comes by hearing” and in our quiet time with Him, we will know the inspiration of His Will and the Faith to step into the adventure of His leadings.

“I will lead them with prayers…”
Jeremiah 31:9

*NOTE: Effectual Prayers are a truth that is very precious to me. They are prayers that produce an effect in my life.  My hope is that we each discover and enter into our own deep and transforming relationship with Him. Each one of His own is to have their own personal journey of prayer.  The closer we come to Him the more significant will be our relationships with one another. No one is to remain isolated and aloof from the rest of His Body for HE is the life of the Body. Many in our day say “Lord, Lord…”  but the connections of the Body of Christ are not based on confessions.  They are based on our walking, living, and abiding in HIM who is the Light.

“But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light,
we have fellowship one with another…”
1 John 1:7

“They are prayers that produce an effect in my life.” This is what prayer really is about.
It is not sending Father to do our errands or things we cannot do; it is getting to know Him, like a child on a parent’s lap.
That is what “praying without ceasing” is about; not constantly begging God for what we want, but learning to “chat” with Him, listen for His breath and voice, getting to know The God Who Is.
