Affliction and Deliverance

“He delivers the afflicted by their affliction”
Job 36:15

Affliction is often His MEANS to deliver us from the very affliction of our own inherent self. The unforgiving will not know deliverance from bitterness until they learn to forgive. The proud will not be able to touch the depths of His wisdom apart from the humility learned in the furnaces of God.

“My soul shall make her boast in the Lord:
the humble shall hear thereof, and be glad”
Psalm 34:2

“The humble shall see this, and be glad”
Psalm 69:32

It is the humble who hear and see God. The humble know of the “gladness” that accompanies its own development.

Affliction and Deliverance

Humility is the foundation from which true obedience springs. We read of the wonder of God incarnate…

“He humbled Himself, and became obedient…”
Philippians 2:8

Humility is the grace that frees us from our pride and disobedience and brings us to the “joy of His salvation”! David knew of God’s providence in the valleys of shadows, distresses, and afflictions. And in the passage of time, he praised God for them and realized that IN them God was “keeping” him from going astray and enlarging him in their discourse.

“Before I was afflicted I went astray:
but now have I kept thy word”
Psalm 119:67

“Thou hast enlarged me when I was in distress”
Psalm 4:1
