The Morning Light
“My voice shalt thou hear in the morning”
Psalm 5:3
There is great comfort in knowing our God will meet us in the time of morning prayer. It is an unfathomable privilege to know that, as His children, His ear is attentive to our cries. Regardless of our situation, the bitterness and failure of yesterday must give way to the wonder of His presence today.
“It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed,
because his compassions fail not.
They are new every morning”
Lamentations 3:22-23
Mercy and compassion envelop the diligent seeker in the early morning hours just as the dew settles upon the lilies of the valley. His quiet and healing presence sweeps over our souls nourishing, restoring, and drawing us near unto that Heart of pure love. How quickly fades the angst and concern over the fears of the day before us. Light and peace fill the void and empty places within as a quiet confidence springs up from deep within our souls. God is here! Not only is He here but He is listening to our trembling voices and tentative hearts. He gives an audience unto His own; our God is good and gracious!

There is no better way to launch into a new morning than to give The Giver of each day the glory and praise he alone is worthy of.

Early will I seek thee. I remember having a bad dream as a child, the comfort of knowing that my mother was nearby helped me to calm down quickly and her voice was comforting and reassuring. It’s the same with our father who never leaves us alone. 🙏🏾

Hey Brian, this reminds me of when God established with the priesthood to offer a continual burnt offering in Exodus 29:38-42, a lamb in the morning and a lamb in the evening along with the prescribed flour, oil and wine for each.
These signify both the time necessary, as well as the devotion without begrudging, as our sacrifice to God must be from our hearts, as well as with generous portions of his Word, his Spirit, and with worship.

Thanks for this, Brian. (Finally figured out how to comment on your blog.) The ESV for Psalm 5:3 has this: “O LORD, in the morning you hear my voice; in the morning I prepare a sacrifice for you and watch.” I think this gets it right. It is a mingling together of prayer with the morning sacrifice; the prayer ascends to God with the smoke of the sacrifice of our lives unto Him, and our eyes are lifted up in anticipation of the answer.
