Quote for Today
“Spend your time in nothing which you know must be repented of; in nothing on which you might not pray for the blessing of God; in nothing which you could not review with a quiet conscience on your dying bed; in nothing which you might not safely and properly be found doing if death should surprise you in the act”
– Richard Baxter
Brian what is this last sentence saying? Is it that they are justified even though they are living in the world?
He is just saying that they hope in a faith that justifies their life. He is pointing out that it is a flimsy hope upon which they place their trust.
This is in contrast to Paul’s unshakeable faith…
“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day…”
2 Timothy 4:7-8
and also of John…
“Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world”
1 John 4:17
It came to me years ago the faith we live by will be the faith that we die by…
It is to that end I seek to finish my course…
Blessings
