PODCAST – Ezekiel’s Thousand Cubits

(22 minutes shared at an outdoor Conference)

“Again he measured a thousand, and brought me through the waters; the waters were to the knees. Again he measured a thousand, and brought me through; the waters were to the loins. Afterward he measured a thousand; and it was a river that I could not pass over: for the waters were risen, waters to swim in, a river that could not be passed over.”
– Ezekiel 47:4-6

“But he that doeth truth cometh to the light…”
John 3:21

Truth is relational, not intellectual. Truth is a person—Jesus Christ—not a concept to be grasped mentally (1 Corinthians 2:14). As with human friendships, the freedom to share personal things depends on the depth of our relationship with one another, so also with God. Jesus told his disciples they couldn’t yet bear certain truths, showing that revelation comes as our capacity grows through intimacy with Him (John 16:12). This is illustrated by Ezekiel’s vision of the river of life; for each “thousand cubits” Ezekiel walks out, he progressively experiences a corresponding deeper walk in its wonder. Waters to the ankles, knees, waist, then “waters to swim in.” This reflects spiritual growth: walking in initial truths, developing our prayer life, bearing fruit, and eventually full surrender to God’s will comes as we are faithful to the truth He has already given us. The angel only measures another thousand cubits to Ezekiel after he walks out the previous measure—truth unfolds through our obedience, not our intellect.

Thank you so much, brother, for this podcast. It is very profound and thought provoking. Those thousand cubits at a time I’ve experienced to a very small degree. I believe that I accepted the challenge at one point, that said, I believe I’m still at the ankles, if even that much. I know there is so much depth yet to know.
    Amazing lesson!
    Blessings Brian
