Quote for Today – Richard Baxter

Quote for Today

“Most (Christians) have an ungrounded trust in Christ, hoping that He will pardon, justify and save them, while the world has their hearts, and they live to the flesh. And this trust they take as justifying faith”

    1. He is just saying that they hope in a faith that justifies their life. He is pointing out that it is a flimsy hope upon which they place their trust.

This is in contrast to Paul’s unshakeable faith…

“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day…”
      2 Timothy 4:7-8

      and also of John…

“Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world”
      1 John 4:17

It came to me years ago the faith we live by will be the faith that we die by…

It is to that end I seek to finish my course…
