“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses…”
Acts 1:8a

Prior to her Christian husband being released from prison in Iran, Mahir (not real name), feared that she might be arrested too. So she seriously prayed, “Dear Lord, I am not ready to go to a solitary confinement because of my Christian faith. It is such a closed and dirty environment. As you know I was born and brought up in a wealthy family and had a comfortable life. Please don’t test me beyond my ability.” She told God she would not be able to handle being arrested and mentioned her fear that she might give the names of all believers in the house churches to the police or even deny Jesus.

Three days later, the secret police knocked at her door. She said to God, “I have already asked you not to put me in this temptation. So whatever happens, it is not my fault. Because I had already told you that I am not a strong person and can’t stand against these security people and can’t tolerate persecution.”

She said, “The police blindfolded me and took me to the solitary confinement. I was scared to death and felt sick as the place was very smelly.” They put her in a cell and a few hours later brought her in for interrogation. She added, “I sensed the presence of the Holy Spirit very strongly. And I felt that God’s peace came down on me and my fear went away.”

When Mahir stood before the high official, she courageously testified of her Christian faith. “It is an honour for me to talk to people about Jesus. I will be very happy to talk to you about Jesus and salvation too. Like all other people and Muslims, you also need Jesus in your life. Without Jesus a person does not have any peace and life is hopeless and without any purpose. Jesus laid his life down for you too so that you can have salvation and will not perish.” The official responded in anger, “Do you know what the consequence of all this will be for you? You can’t evangelize me. It will cost you a heavy price.”

On the third night the official came to her cell. Mahir was frightened fearing that he came to abuse her sexually or to beat her up. But the official told her, “Don’t be afraid of me. I need your prayers. When you shared about Jesus with me, it had such a powerful impact on my life. I need to be saved. I need Jesus in my life. I believe God has sent you to come to this prison so that you can share about salvation with me. I am now completely aware of the fact that without Jesus I will be a miserable and hopeless person and I will perish. Please pray for me that I can be set free from this hell I live in.”

Mahir had the chance to share about Jesus for three hours with him and at the end he repented of his sins and committed his life to Jesus. The official testified that for the first time he experienced the real peace and love of God in his life.

Mahir and her husband were both released from prison and are in touch with this official and his wife secretly. The wife of the official has committed her life to the Lord too.

Persecution Post – India

An Indian pastor says he was attacked by Hindu extremists who dragged him out onto the streets, beat him, and threatened to kill him unless he renounced Jesus Christ for a Hindu monkey deity.

“In those moments when they were kicking and beating me, I felt that even if I die now, the Lord will make the ministry I leave behind fruitful,” Pastor Karma Oraon told Morning Star News in an article published Monday.

“We are just a few gathering in the name of Jesus. He is our strength.”

The attack occurred while in Harmu village of Ranchi District, Jharkhand state, on Christmas Eve, when 16 or so Hindu radicals attacked a prayer meeting the 34-year-old pastor was leading with others.

The attackers started shouting “Praise Bajrang Bali,” referring to the monkey god Hanuman.

“They forcefully dragged me outside when we were in the middle of meditating on the Word of God,” the pastor explained. “They spewed many words in extreme foul language and beat me on my chest repeatedly.”

The pastor was physically and verbally abused, with the radicals tearing up his national identification card.

“They slapped me and said, ‘You are Oraon? Tell us what you must do, being an Oraon? You should follow the Adivasi [indigenous] religion or this foreign religion?'” he said.

“They told me, ‘Immediately you should give up Christianity and embrace Sarnaism/Sarna [indigenous religions) — if you don’t, you will be brutally murdered.”

The pastor’s small flock was also told that they and their families will be killed if they practice Christianity and refuse to embrace the indigenous religion.

One of the witnesses, 21-year-old Chotu Munda, was also beaten when he tried to rescue Oraon.

When he later went to report the incident to the police, the officers refused to even register the case.

The pastor has been driven out of the village, but has not lost his faith in Jesus.

“I never had an experience of opposition when I preached Gospel or visited families to pray for the sick. But I seek inspiration from my Lord; people have crossed every limit to humiliate Him and crucify Him, but He patiently bore their torture for my sake, for my sins,” Oraon said.

“I strongly feel the presence of my Lord Jesus in all this. Had He not granted the strength to endure, I could have never overcome from what happened.”

Still, he said that many in the minority Christian community in India are “losing confidence in the government,” with attacks continuing to rise against them.

Thought for Today – The Alabaster Box

Thought for Today

The Alabaster Box
And
Freedom from Strife

“Thou hast delivered me from the strivings of the people…”
Psalm 18:43

God has an answer for the strife, jealously and contention of religious, partisan discord. Clinging to teachings, ministries of God, and the honoring of men and organizations over Him, clouds His likeness in this world. It destroys the very fabric and wonder of His salvation and the unity of His Spirit. It is as we abide, seek and desire Him alone that He delivers us from the misery and shame of the “strivings of the people”.

The Alabaster Box

There is no better description of this age-old spectacle than that of the story of the woman with the Alabaster box. The room was filled with the carnality, contention, and strife of the various sects of the religious world. The self-righteous Pharisee (himself a leper), the indignant and blind disciples, and the broken-hearted woman (who alone saw the true wonder and glory of the Son) were all confined in one room. Have we not all been in such situations and even sat in the seat of each of these at some time? The Pharisee was oblivious to his own state yet filled with contempt over the woman’s reputation. The disciples were supposedly distressed over the cost and waste of the ointment being poured out. The worshiping woman saw nothing other than the priceless beauty of Christ.

The Pharisee was disturbed with the person, the disciples concerned with the gift, while the woman only had eyes for Him. Singleness of eye is God’s deliverance from the “strivings of the people”. A pure heart rises above partisan politics to see the motivation from which an action proceeds. The reality is that both parties of this drama were offended by her lavish and unmitigated worship of Him! Religious people will always find fault with the true worshiper of Christ; it is an indictment of their own lack of passion for Him.

The Scribes and the Pharisees consulted in the killing of Lazarus for his very presence was a testimony to the resurrection life of Jesus. Cain killed his brother Abel because his gift was accepted and Cain’s rejected. The Pharisees had to cover their ears during the stoning of Stephen because it was a damning of their own true condition. Those who walk with singleness of eye will know loneliness in this world and the contempt of the religious but the joy of seeing Him delivers them from the “strivings of the people”.

“Truly I tell you,
wherever the gospel is preached throughout the world,
what she has done will also be told,
in memory of her”
Mark 14:9

A Dire Warning

FOUR WORDS
FOR
AMERICA

“MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPHARSIN”
DANIEL 5:25

PART TWO

JUDGEMENT BEGINS AT THE HOUSE OF GOD

“For the time is come that judgment
MUST begin at the house of God”
1 PETER 4:17

The judgment of God IS COME to America. She has been weighed and measured and found wanting. Great division and strife will be the outcome. Desolation and burning will be the reward for her ways and her works. God is Holy, He is Pure and Righteous. In order for His righteous judgments to proceed He must begin at His Own House; it would be hypocritical for Him to do otherwise. He must have a purified house before He can rightly judge the world (II Corinthians 10:6).

The “church” of today in America has become worldly and wise with a wisdom that is of the earth. She has forsaken the CALL to be a light unto the world and a revelation of the Living Christ; she has become worldly, trading her heavenly call for a worldly one. Rather than standing in prayer for the nation she has become political, secular and adversarial. She has forsaken the spiritual weapons which are mighty and taken on carnal weapons to fight within the realm of politics and reason. Rather than praying for the leaders of the nation this church has become carnal, contentious and rebellious. The weapons she now wields will bring judgment and persecution upon her and this is GOD’S DOING.

“I exhort therefore, that, first of all,
supplications, prayers, intercessions,
and giving of thanks,
be made for all men;
For kings, and for all that are in authority;
that we may lead a quiet
and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.
For this is good and acceptable
in the sight of God our Saviour;
Who will have all men to be saved,
and to come unto the knowledge of the truth”
1 TIMOTHY 2:1-4

Not once in the entire New Testament did Paul ever mention Nero, the Roman leader who was ferociously persecuting the Christians of his day. Not once did Paul mention the Roman assault on Jerusalem; for the Kingdom Paul and the rest of the Apostles were preaching WAS NOT OF THIS WORLD! Jesus said to Pilate…

“My kingdom is not of this world:
IF my kingdom were of this world,
THEN would my servants fight…”
JOHN 18:36

The “church” of America has in large part declared, by her actions, that in fact her kingdom is of this world. She has declared this by taking up the carnal weapons of political warfare, by speaking evil of dignitaries and seeking to influence the world around her by legislation rather than by the revelation of Jesus Christ. She has sought to change the world by political force instead of spiritual reality. Jesus said to render to Caesar that which was Caesar’s, and to God that which is God’s. We are plainly told this world is passing away and we are to look toward the Day of His Kingdom. We are not to become entangled in the affairs of this world. When the Church ceases to be a light to the nation, darkness and deception will readily fill the vacuum.

God must judge a church that has become worldly and carnal. The idea of God judging His House is a foreign concept to the church of our day (read the Book of Revelation chapters 2 and 3)! Yet we read plainly in 1 Peter 4:17 that the Judgment of God MUST BEGIN AT HIS HOUSE! WILL WE NOT LISTEN, WILL WE NOT TURN AWAY FROM THE CARNALITY, WORLDLINESS AND SIN that so plagues us? JUDGEMENT MUST BEGIN AT GOD’S HOUSE. Let us read this as a dire warning of what is about to unfold.

PERSECUTION

There is a persecution that is about to break forth in a fury of unprecedented proportions. It is because the church has failed to represent HIM and instead has become proud and arrogant. She has become “rich and increased with goods… and has needed nothing” from God. She is unaware of her own spiritual condition and the horror of her wantonness and worldly desire. She has settled in this world with an ease and comfort as the result of the “deceitfulness of riches”. Her kingdom is of this earth, her power has become political and, like Samson, she has laid her head in the bosom of the world and lost her anointing and forsaken her call.

SAMSON
(A PICTURE OF HOPE AND RESURRECTION)

Like Samson she has been blinded and bound and great will be the fall. The world will make sport of her. She will be mocked and her persecution will be a sport to the world; a means of entertainment for all to see. Yet in her humiliation and brokenness there will be a turning and a repentance. She will remember her call. She will return to her place as a beautiful bride willing to sacrifice her life to see the will of God fulfilled in the earth! She will arise anew and great will be the power and glory that results from the Judgment of God upon her. The fury of the Judgment that is about to fall will be devastating and horrific. The savageness of it will be beyond comprehension. Many Christians will take up arms to fight against that which is coming and they will fall as surely as all who have done so throughout the history of the church. However, there will be a people who will turn and repent, who will humble themselves under the hand of the Almighty GOD to find grace and mercy in this time.

“And when these things BEGIN to come to pass,
then look up, and lift up your heads;
for your redemption draweth nigh.”
LUKE 21:28

The judgment and humbling of the Church will result in the purification and restoration of her place of authority in God. When this is finished, when our obedience unto Him is complete and full, then God will Judge the Nations with a Rod of Iron. The Judgments* linger UNTIL the Obedience of God’s people is complete.

“…having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience,
WHEN YOUR obedience is fulfilled”
2 CORINTHIANS 10:6

A FINAL WORD

“Gather yourselves together,
yea, gather together, O nation not desired;
BEFORE the decree bring forth,
BEFORE the day pass as the chaff,
BEFORE the fierce anger of the LORD
come upon you,

BEFORE the day of the LORD’S anger
come upon you.

SEEK ye the LORD, all ye meek of the earth,
which have wrought his judgment;
SEEK righteousness, SEEK meekness:
it may be ye shall be hid
in the day of the LORD’S anger”
ZEPHANIAH 2:1-3

*NOTE: The Judgments of God are predicated upon His People and their obedience and spiritual condition. This is why God must Judge His Own House first.

1. Jesus said that His coming would be as it was in the days of Noah (Luke 17:26) “God waited while the Ark was preparing…”(1Peter 3:20). God waited for Noah to complete the building of the Ark before the Judgment of God could fall in Noah’s day.
2. Jesus said that His coming would be as it was in the days of Lot (Luke 17:28-30). God’s Judgments could not fall on Sodom until Lot had come out of her… (Genesis 15:19-26)

But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom
it rained fire and brimstone from heaven,
and destroyed them all.
Even thus shall it be in the
day when the Son of man is revealed”
Luke 17:29-30

We see in the Book of Revelation the voice of God calling His people to come out of her (Babylon)… for if we partake of her sins we will surely partake of her plagues…

“And I heard another voice from heaven,
saying, Come out of her, MY PEOPLE,
that ye be not partakers of her sins,
and that ye receive not of her plagues.
For her sins have reached unto heaven,
and God hath remembered her iniquities.
Reward her even as she rewarded you,
and double unto her double
according to her works:

in the cup which
she hath filled fill to her double.

How much she hath glorified herself,
and lived deliciously,
so much torment and sorrow give her:

for she saith in her heart, I sit a queen,
and am no widow, and shall see no sorrow.
Therefore shall her plagues come in one day,
death, and mourning, and famine;
and she shall be utterly burned with fire:
for strong is the Lord God who judgeth her”
REVELATION 18:4-8

After having received this word from the Lord several months ago
I confess my own lack of praying for my own country and its leaders
and my own need for change. It is a day for turning, it is a day
for the people to rend our hearts for the day is upon us for our
God is no respecter of persons.
