Quote for Today – F.W. Robertson

Quote for Today

“What the world calls virtue is a name and a dream without Christ. The foundation of all human excellence must be laid deep in the blood of the Redeemer’s cross, and in the power of His resurrection.”
– Frederick William Robertson

Quote for Today – Alexander MacLaren

Quote for Today

“Faith does not grasp a doctrine, but a heart. The trust which Christ requires is the bond that unites souls with Him; and the very life of it is entire committal of myself to Him in all my relations and for all my needs, and absolute utter confidence in Him as all sufficient for everything that I can require”
– Alexander MacLaren

Quote for Today

Jacob Boehme

I know nothing, and desire to know nothing, nor have I at any time sought any skill or knowledge; for I am a child in knowledge, and a nothing; I want to know nothing, that I might in knowledge be dead and a nothing, that God in the Spirit of Christ may be my knowing, willing, and doing, that I may run in his knowing and willing, and that not I, but he; that I may be only his Instrument, and he the Hand and the Labour.

Christ our Righteousness

Christ our Righteousness

“As for me, I will behold thy face in righteousness:
I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with thy likeness”
Psalm 17:15

Beholding is the path to becoming. It is in the seeing of Him that we are actually changed.

“But we all, with open face
beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord,
are changed into the same image from glory to glory,
even as by the Spirit of the Lord”
2 Corinthians 3:18

From Genesis through Revelation we read of those who had one purpose in life: to see Him who is the matrix from which all things come into being. He is the One by whom all things are created and for whom all things are created. The pursuit of this one thing has been the uniting purpose of all who have His Spirit within their hearts.

Righteousness is the vehicle through which we see Him. I cannot immerse myself in sin and iniquity and expect to see Him. The cry for righteousness within the human heart arises out of a pure desire to see Him. The pursuit for holiness or righteousness with any other motive will always lead into an abyss of religion and darkness.

“I will behold thy face in righteousness”

“I will” speaks of confidence and the assurance of one who knows the grace and the wonder of his God. There is no doubt concerning this. This righteousness is the result of a heart submitted to the purging, dealings and searching of His Spirit.

“Little children, let no man deceive you:
he that doeth righteousness is righteous…”
1 John 3:7

Religion concerns itself with words; God concerns Himself with the reality of a life. The true substance of righteousness is revealed in the doing not in the speaking. Righteousness is revealed in the things we do for they are the true expression of what we are.

It is in the desire for authenticity that our true need for Him is discovered. The greater the desire for true righteousness, the greater is our need for the grace to make it so. This is the righteousness of God in Christ for it brings us to complete dependency upon Him for its growth and development. His life reigning in us reveals His righteousness.

The pursuit of God is an ever growing, ever living and ever deepening journey into the life and righteousness of God Himself.

“For therein is the righteousness of God revealed
from faith to faith…”
Romans 1:17

It is a continual unfolding of His righteousness in us through the development of our growing faith to walk and live in Him. This desire is summed up by David:

“I shall be satisfied,
when I awake, with thy likeness”
Psalm 17:15

To settle for anything less is unthinkable.

The Garment of Salvation

The Garment of Salvation

“Speak unto the children of Israel,
and bid them that they make them fringes
in the borders of their garments
throughout their generations,
and that they put upon the fringe
of the borders a ribband of blue”
Numbers 15:38

The Old Testament is the picture book of all which God has purposed in the New. He has never deviated from His original purpose of having a man in His Image. His Spirit remains in the earth until He has fully accomplished all that He has purposed in Christ Jesus. We see here in even the garments of the “children of Israel” additional embellishments were added as they walked with God.

The “ribband” of Blue mentioned here is the result of an Israelite profaning the Sabbath of God. In the midst of this severe judgement God announces to the children of Israel to add to their garments the fringe of blue, which would ever remind them of His Holiness. By the sewing of this blue into their garments they were to ever be cognizant of this living truth. That blue was to become a part of their garments which were worn in the common course of their everyday life.

“And it shall be unto you for a fringe,
that ye may look upon it,
and remember all the commandments of the Lord,
and do them; and that ye seek not after
your own heart and your own eyes,
after which ye use to go a whoring:
That ye may remember,
and do all my commandments,
and be holy unto your God
Numbers 15:39-40

In the New Testament the Salvation of Christ is presented to us as “robes of righteousness”, garments of salvation and the garments of praise. It is a living garment (His Life and Covering) given to us upon the moment of rebirth through faith and repentance. A garment of pure white wherein the Spirit of God would “weave” into it the attributes and graces of the living Christ (see Exodus 39:2-3). While many today settle for a declared righteousness there is a failure to realize the necessity to “keep their garments white” (Revelation 3:4, 16:15) from the contagion of the world and the horror of religion. We are to so walk with God as there would be the ongoing embellishment of His beauty, holiness and graces woven into the very fabric of our lives (2 Peter 1:5-10). Failure to add these graces results in spiritual blindness and great loss to the believer’s reward in Christ. A salvation which grows into His likeness through the experiences of walking with Him.

“I will greatly rejoice in the Lord,
my soul shall be joyful in my God;
for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation,
he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness,
as a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments,
and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels”
Isaiah 61:10

These garments of glory are a picture of His righteousness becoming ours. It is in our being clothed in Him that His salvation becomes ours, His life being our covering and His righteousness becoming the breastplate of our spiritual armor (Ephesians 6:13-17). The day is breaking and the great tribulation is even now at the door of all them that dwell upon the earth. It is a day of the revelation of the Word going forth with great judgement as He treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of the Almighty God (Revelation 19:15). Within the scope of this great and terrible day John sees a people who stand before the throne of God worshipping Him that “liveth forever and ever” …

“After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude,
which no man could number,
of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues,
stood before the throne, and before the Lamb,
clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands”
Revelation 7:9

Upon the seeing of this multitude clothed with “white robes” John enquired as to who  these were and from whence have they come?

“These are they which came out of great tribulation,
and have washed their robes,
and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.
Therefore, are they before the throne of God,
and serve him day and night in his temple:
and he that sitteth on the throne shall dwell among them.
They shall hunger no more, neither thirst any more;
neither shall the sun light on them, nor any heat.
For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne
shall feed them, and shall lead them
unto living fountains of waters:
and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes”
Revelation 7:14

It is a day for us to walk circumspectly before our God. It is a time of entering into the Holiness and the Glory of the Lord. The only safe place in the hour that is upon us is a life which is “hid with Christ in God”. Being clothed in the robe of His Righteousness, bringing forth His judgements and justice, seeking Him with all of our hearts. For those who “dwell in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the Shadow of The Almighty” (Psalm 91:1).

“Seek ye the Lord, all ye meek of the earth,
which have wrought his judgment;
seek righteousness, seek meekness:
it may be ye shall be hid
in the day of the Lord’s anger”
Zephaniah 2:3

It is the life of dwelling and abiding IN HIM wherein the security and the ability to stand is ours. This is the day of seeking, doing and dwelling in Him for the storm is about to break and the foundation of everyman’s house will be revealed.

Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine,
and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man,
which built his house upon a rock:
And the rain descended, and the floods came,
and the winds blew, and beat upon that house;
and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.
And every one that heareth these sayings of mine,
and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man,
which built his house upon the sand:
And the rain descended, and the floods came,
and the winds blew, and beat upon that house;
and it fell: and great was the fall of it
Matthew 7:24-27
