Quote for Today

1899-38633

“Spend your time in nothing which you know must be repented of; in nothing on which you might not pray for the blessing of God; in nothing which you could not review with a quiet conscience on your dying bed; in nothing which you might not safely and properly be found doing if death should surprise you in the act”

  • Brian what is this last sentence saying? Is it that they are justified even though they are living in the world?

    • He is just saying that they hope in a faith that justifies their life. He is pointing out that it is a flimsy hope upon which they place their trust.

This is in contrast to Paul’s unshakeable faith…

“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day…”
      2 Timothy 4:7-8

      and also of John…

“Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world”
      1 John 4:17

It came to me years ago the faith we live by will be the faith that we die by…

It is to that end I seek to finish my course…

      Blessings
